Survey To Decide Future Of Tekkit Classic Survey

As promised I have put together a short follow up survey regarding the future of the Tekkit Classic server, the survey will remain open over the Christmas period, with the results being posted in the new year.


I've always said that the server will remain open as long as players are willing to help with costs by donating, so regardless of the outcome of this survey the server will remain open for another 3 months for every £50 of donations received between now and 16th January, so £100 of donations would keep the server open for 6 months and £200 would keep it open for a full year. That means that potentially just 8 players donating for VIP rank in the next month could keep the server open for another year so it's all up to you guys and gals!

New 'Lifetime' Donator & VIP Ranks

The new 'Lifetime' Donator & VIP ranks are now available!

Obviously the minimum donations are slightly higher than the old yearly ranks but they are still excellent value compared to other servers, with Donator being £15 and VIP being £25. 

From 16th January you will also be able to donate for these ranks on the DiggyVerse server or for just a little more a Multi-server version which gives you the rank on both servers. 

Anyone who donates for either Donator or VIP rank will be given the option to upgrade their rank to Multi-server once it becomes available!

VIP Island MKII

The renovation of VIP Island is complete!


VIP Protection Stones and buyable commands are now available
on the island in the new VIP Spawn Store...


When you warp to the Island you'll notice some major changes, no
more climbing stairs, warps take you straight up to other floors...


The chalets have been replaced with rooms, the style is more simple
but they have extra features such as an included rolling machine
and brewing stand for you to use... 


With the introduction of 'Lifetime' donation ranks, as on the
DiggyVerse server, the number of rooms has been increased
from 12 to 20, with the possibility to add more in the future.

Existing VIP players have already been assigned a room!

Survey, Future Of The Server & Staffing

I've had a few people ask about staffing on the Tekkit Classic server as most of the existing staff now only play on the DiggyVerse modpack server so I thought it was time for an update.

Survey / Future Of The Server

Many of you will remember the survey a couple of months ago before the modpack was released, the results are here if you missed it or need a reminder:


The main question about the future of the Tekkit Classic survey didn't get anything close to a definitive answer, and was split between yes we should keep it beyond February, no we shouldn't, and undecided. At the time I promised a second survey nearer the time, that survey will be released within the next week or two. Tekkit Classic is not as popular as it used to be, Minecraft 1.2.5 is very outdated now, but the future of the server depends on you guys and gals and the decision will be made by mid-January.

We will only continue to host the Tekkit Classic server beyond February if a significant number of players want us to and sufficient funds are raised via donations, however big changes are coming to our Donation based ranks for 2015, especially the VIP rank, so watch this space.

Staffing

Although we don't have staff online all the time like we used to most support tickets are still being handled fairly quickly and things like hack detection have been mostly automated. I agree that we really do need more staff if the server is to continue next year, however I'm holding off on promoting any more players to staff ranks until we know how likely that is.

If you want the Tekkit Classic server to continue beyond February then make sure you complete the survey when it's posted and consider donating, if you donate and the server doesn't continue beyond February because not enough funds are raised you will be compensated with free items etc on the modpack server.

Have You Tried DiggyVerse Yet?

Our DiggyVerse modpack has come a long way since it was first opened for live testing with several mods being updated and tweaked but we seem to have finally reached the point where new releases won't need to be so regular!

We've received a great deal of positive feedback and some great suggestions for features we could add to the adventure world, which is only just starting to take shape.

Until 31st December you can transfer both your rank and up to $20,000 from the Tekkit Classic server, so if you haven't checked it out yet then why not give it a go now?

Member+ Nominations

I have decided to change the way Member+ nominations work on a trial basis, so their are now two ways for players to reach Member+ rank...
  1. Nomination by Helper or Moderator and 14+ unique days.
  2. Nomination by 2 Member+ players and 21+ unique days.
Member+ players who want to nominate a Member rank player for Member+ promotion should open a modreq, with the name of the player and a brief reason reason why they think the player should be Member+, you can also send an email to the usual address (admin@diggyminecraft.co.uk) if you would like to give more information than you can in a modreq.

Member rank players who receive 2 nominations from Member+ players within 7 days will be considered for Member+.

If no second nomination is received within 7 days the modreq will be closed. Whatever the outcome of a nomination nominating players will be given a reason when the modreq is closed. As with staff nominations players with warnings within the last 30 days, or 60 days in the case of griefing, will not be considered for Member+.

DiggyVerse Officially Launched!

The whitelist has been removed and the download links have been added to the website!

Please note: The official BDcraft 64x texture pack will be launched and a download link added as soon as the forum thread is approved by a moderator!

All players will start at the Explorer rank and with a standard starter kit.

Players who are Member rank or above can request an early promotion and the transfer of up to $25,000 from their Tekkit Classic balance by opening a modreq. Bear in mind that it will take time to process these requests and that this will be done on a first come first served basis!

Existing VIP and Donator players can also request that rank, however it will expire on 16th January 2015 when the DiggyVerse donation based ranks become generally available. Unlike the current Tekkit Classic ones DiggyVerse donation based ranks will be lifetime rather than just for a year and will also give access to VeteranWorld!

Modpack Live Testing

Just a reminder that live testing of the DiggyVerse modpack and server is now open to all players who are currently staff or VIP rank on the Tekkit Classic server!

The official launch and whitelist removal is expected to be 5th November 2014.

Second Glitch Of The Day

Well we had a second glitching block a couple of hours ago, this time though it wasn't so serious and was simple to fix, hopefully that will be the last for quite a while. I guess we were kind of overdue though, we hadn't had a glitch like this for several months!

Server Downtime

Apologies for the downtime today, we had a glitching block in the main world and it took us a little while to track it down and remove it!

The glitch was made worse by extreme lag from a high number of lag producing items (way above the limits) which meant we couldn't get close enough to remove the glitching block manually (despite trying for over half an hour), as a result we unfortunately had to regenerate the area which destroyed half of the players factory. Please do remember to stick to the item limits we have set, we have them for a reason, thanks!

Modpack Update - Optifine & Worlds

Optifine

Unfortunately the terms of use for Optifine have changed and whilst DiggyVerse will support Optifine it will not be included in the pack. We will maintain compatibility though so it's just a case of following the link on the DiggyVerse website to download the correct version and then dropping the mod into your 'mods' folder, I've added instructions to the website and most staff members should be able to point you in the right direction if you get stuck!

World Generation

We are currently in the process of generating the main world for the server, as with the Tekkit Classic server we are pre-generating all chunks to improve performance, the world is pretty big so obviously this will take a while, it should be finished within the next few hours though.

All other worlds have already finished being pre-generated, once this is finished we just need to create some World Warps and double check a couple of small things!

DiggyVerse.co.uk + Image Gallery

The most noticeable change to the website today was the link to the new DiggyVerse website on the side bar, staff had known about the new site for a while but the information on it is finally ready for everyone to take a look at!

The website contains all the information you would expect about the modpack, just like this one does for the Tekkit Classic server, along with a complete mod list on the Credit & Thanks page.

You'll also notice that the Modpack section has been removed from this site as it was a little redundant with the launch of the new site. 

The new site does not mean that posts will no longer be made on this one, it just gives us a simple way of keeping information about the two servers separate!

Image Gallery

The new image gallery is something I've been playing with for a while, I had been testing it on the DiggyVerse website and as it worked so well decided to add a separate gallery to this site as well, I have already added over 150 images from the past 18 months or so and from now on all player submitted images will be added to the gallery when posted!

Thanks to freaksdesign for the original suggestion.

Website Changes

I'll be making some website changes tonight, mostly relating to the new modpack and server, this will include revealing the mod list!

As a result some of the pages may be temporarily missing or blank from around 6:30 pm (UK), I expect everything to be finished soon after 9:30 pm (UK) though.

DiggyWig Freaks Out!

I was minding my own business cruising along on a parachute while 
I was waiting for some files  to upload and suddenly started
taking damage... then I got poisoned...
so I sped up a bit and took a quick look behind me...


Three Spectres were chasing me and one was Infernal!!!

I got away but it was a close call, DigginChickin and
DiggyBrine thought the whole thing was hilarious!

Modpack Server Preview - Minigames!

Our minigames have been really popular ever since we introduced them,
the updated version on the modpack server gives us quite a few
new options and we have already completed work on 10+
minigames for the servers launch!


Of course some classics are back, like the PvP Duel and Spleef (above), we've also built new Maze, Castles and PvP Village (an old favourite!)  minigames! The Biome Race is also back but this time it has a more difficult four player version, Danger Race! 


For the parkour lovers we have two courses, Parkour, for beginners and Parkour Pro (above) for those who are more experienced or want more of a challenge, much like our current parkour games!


We also have three entirely new games based around teams, Infection, CTF Castles (above) & Pharaoh PvP (above), with the last two allowing the use of selected weapons from Balkons Weapon Mod!

Modpack Delayed Due To Plugin Issue

We're  having a permissions issue with one of the plugins on the modpack server, the plugin developer has temporarily taken down the list of permissions for the plugin and is not responding to questions so I'm having to decompile the plugin to figure out the permissions from the code. 

This could take a few days to sort out so for now I'm moving the live testing date back to 27th October, this should be a worst case scenario date, sorry again for the delay!

Modpack Preview - Transmutation

A few people have asked whether Equivalent Exchange will be included in the modpack... it won't be.

The main reason is the fact that it is so overpowered and for many people just leads to them getting bored very quickly as they 'have everything'.

That said you cant deny that transmutation (changing one item into another) is extremely useful for building and means you don't have to store vast amounts of cobblestone, it also helps keep the world in a better state because people need to collect less materials.

With this in mind I decided to develop my own transmutation system within my main mod, using an item I called the 'Essence Stone'. You won't recognise all the ingredients in the recipe, the centre one is Diggyolite, the same ore used to craft the in game currency... maybe you can guess where the purple item is from (take a look at earlier previews)...


Only a selection of vanilla blocks and items can be transmuted, that way items such as wood from Biomes 'O' Plenty trees etc will still be of value when it comes to player trading via stores, malls etc and it gives players an incentive to go out and search for things and take the time to grow trees, crops etc. I looked through the vanilla items and recipes and got my kids to help decide which items should be transmutable and what the recipes should be so whilst it doesn't relate to the EMC values you know from Tekkit Classic we do feel it is a fairer and better balanced system, plus being developed by me we can make changes if we decide something should be added or changed!

Here's some example recipes, the 'Essence Stone' is always placed in the middle slot...


The stone has 640 uses (10 full stacks of items), with the damage value showing how many times it has been used so far, it cannot be repaired and after the 640th use it will vanish, so you will need a new one every so often. More than 50 transmutation recipes have been added along with several other standard crafting recipes including craftable and upgradable horse armor.

Modpack Preview - Casino & Money

It's only been a couple of days since the last preview but as we are getting
so close to starting live testing I thought I'd give you another one...


Inside the Casino, all the slots use blocks I made specifically for them!


Industrial Diamonds have proved a popular way to trade on the
current server so I decided to add a proper currency to my mod!

You can easily craft coins into stacks and stacks back into coins,
bullions aren't so simple but allow large amounts of money to
be stored in a chest or vault room.

I know I'm not the only one who finds trying to get the painting they want a real pain,
click, nope, break, click, nope, break etc etc...

Well with this handy little mod that we've included in the modpack
that is a thing of the past...


Just put your painting on the wall, look at it, use the command: /painting
and select the one you want, simple!

Modpack Update - Finalizing Mods

I got a message from one of the modders I hadn't heard back from and they have given me permission to include their mod!

This means that we now have permission for 62 of the 63 mods we intended to include, I had already removed the two mods we didn't have permission for but it's fairly easy to add this one back so I'll be doing that tomorrow. 

The last mod we wanted permission for includes world generation so cannot be added in once the main world is generated, we will be regenerating it just before opening to players for testing so if we do get permission before then I may re-add it, for now though I'm assuming it will not be included.

However, the number of mods will stay at 63 because I have added a third small mod I have been working on, 'DiggysAlphabet'. Basically all it adds is letter and number blocks in a similar style as the DiggyVerse logo, for use at spawn etc, here's a little preview:


Survey Results

Thanks once more to all those who completed the survey, in the end it was completed by an impressive 123 players!

For those who are interested here's a summary of the feedback and how it has and will affect the future of DiggyMinecraft:

How long have you played on the DiggyMinecraft Tekkit Classic server?

49% had played for longer than 1 year, 42% for 1 month to 1 year and 9% for less than a month.

What age range are you in?

As I expected this was very spread, with virtually equal numbers of players in the age ranges covering 11 to 24 (89% in total), just 2% below age 10, and a total of 9% aged 25 or above.

Have you donated towards server costs in the past or would you consider donating?

21% of players had donated at some point in the past, with all but 3 planning to renew next year. 
Of those that haven't donated in the past 62% said they would consider donating in the future.

What modpack do you currently play the most?

This one was very interesting, no players selected Tekkit A New Frontier, Tekkit Lite, Voltz or a custom pack. 35% said they play vanilla the most, 22% Tekkit Classic, 24% FTB, 18% Attack Of The B-Team, and 1% said another built-in pack.

Will you be playing on the new DiggyVerse modpack/server?

82% of players said yes, 18% said maybe, and not a single player said no!

If you could pick any one mod, plugin or feature to be included in the DiggyVerse modpack what would it be?

Responses to this where extremely varied, with over 40 different mods/plugins suggested!
Several people wanted protection stone style land protection, I'm pleased to say it will virtually the same system, but with some extra features such as plots within Towns/Cities.
Several people asked for Treecapitator, Biomes O' Plenty, BiblioCraft, Carpenters Blocks and Balkons Weapon Mod, all of which are already included in the modpack!
Several people asked for The Spice Of Life together with a food mod, we already had a really good food mod included and after looking at this we decided it fitted really well with the pack and so it has now been included!
A few people wanted Mo' Creatures, which I would have loved to include, but the author has refused to allow any player made modpack to include it so this is not possible. Some include it anyway but we have made a point of respecting modders and only including mods we have permission to use, apart from just being 'the right thing to do' including a mod without the modders permission could lead to a server shutdown request to our hosting company and would result in several other modders withdrawing their permission.
A few individuals wanted machine based mods, such as Thermal Expansion, but as stated before the pack will include some basic machines (such as those included with Metallurgy 3 and Hopper Ducts) but will not include advanced machine based mods.

Given that Tekkit Classic is pretty old now and becoming less popular should we continue to host it beyond 2014?

This was very split, with 31% thinking we should continue to host it, 34% thinking we should close it in February, 6% thinking we should close it at the end of the year and 29% being unsure.
Because it was so close I'll run another poll later in the year to make the final decision on this one.

If the Tekkit Classic server was to close what should we do instead?

More than half of players, 59%, think we should just focus on the modpack. 18% think we should run an automatic game server, 9% think we should bring back the old events server, 4% think we should run a more up to date official modpack and 10% think we should run a vanilla server.
Based on this if the Tekkit Server does close in February we will probably just focus on the modpack, downgrade the Tekkit Classic server and use it for testing mods etc for the modpack.

Modpack Preview - Look Up!

Planning on venturing out at night?
Remember to look up every so often!


This is another custom mob from my DiggysMobs mod,
they only come out at night as ectoplasm is highly flammable!


They spend most of their time flying around 20-40 blocks 
above the surface... but... if they see you they will 
swoop down to get you! If you see one you might
want to consider hiding under a tree until it passes!


Sorry it's been a while since the last preview, I had assignments totalling 12500 words to submit by last week, previews will be more regular again now and I'm able to spend more time on the modpack so things are moving much faster!

Player Mall Changes

I've made some changes to the player mall this morning based on feedback;

Shop rent has been reduced to $750.

The number of stalls has been reduced from 20 to 10 and the regions have been expanded to give more space, kind of like mini shops, they can also now be walked through to the shops behind.

Existing stall renters have been removed, your items are in your inventory and you can re-rent a stall by contacting myself, Tatankore or DigginChickin in game.

Survey + Modpack Update

Just a quick message to thank everyone who has taken the survey so far, if you haven't already you can still have your say using the link below...

The feedback has been very positive and interestingly the majority of mods that people have said they would like to see in the pack are definitely going to be in it!

One of the mods requested via the survey wasn't planned to be in the pack but after looking at it in depth we've decided it fits very well with other mods that we had already included and have now got permission to include it, so your feedback really can make a difference!

I'll be closing the survey and posting some statistics in around a week.

I've sent the modders a follow up request but if we haven't heard back by 7th October we will have to assume we can't get permission and unfortunately will have to remove them from the pack.

On a good note though we have got permission for 59 out of 61 mods, or 60 out of 62 including the one mentioned above, and had some great feedback from some of the modders who have had a sneak preview of the modpack.

More news to come soon, and we are now getting very close to starting final testing!

Change To Website / Google+

If you look to the right you'll notice that the old blogger and Google+ button have been replaced by an "Add to circles" box, as quite a few of you follow me on Google+ already I thought I'd make it official!

The followers list is private so it won't give others access to your profile etc, but it will allow you to see all my latest blog posts etc on your Google+ feed along with any other random stuff I share publicly.

Modpack Preview - Mushlings!

Introducing one of my custom mobs, the ridiculously cute Mushlings... 


These little guys will spawn in any biome containing large 
mushrooms, including the Biomes O Plenty Fungi Forest.

Be warned they go absolutely crazy at the sight of cake and
may get so excited they gang up on you  and push you 
over a cliff, it has happened to me twice now!

They were my kids idea and are voiced by DigginChickin, 
they actually say 'Ouch' if you hit them!

Modpack Update

We now have permission for 59 of the 61 mods we are planning to include in the modpack!

As soon as the final list of mods is confirmed (hopefully including the two we are waiting on) we can finalize the configs, finish a few other small jobs and open the server to selected players for testing.

Network Lag For European Players

FragNet have performed some major upgrades in Frankfurt, Germany, which will give them much better control over network routing when tackling issues such as DDoS attacks, however they are still optimising the new equipment and in the mean time this may be causing some players to experience network lag and random disconnects.

The country you are connecting from and even your ISP will affect the amount of lag you experience (if any) until the optimisations are completed. If you do experience severe network lag then please send me an email at; admin@diggyminecraft.co.uk including your country and ISP so that FragNet can investigate, this will help them identify and fix any issues faster.

Hopefully this isn't affecting too many players and will be resolved soon for those it is affecting!

Modpack Update - Texture Pack

We hit another landmark today, thanks to contributions from various members of the BDCraft/Sphax forums the 64x DiggyVerse texture pack is now 100% complete!

The final version of the texture pack is around 107 MB* and consists of almost 16000 files, but don't let the size put you off we've tested it on a couple of lower specification systems and if you can run the 64x Tekkit Classic pack you should be able to run this fine as well!

*To clarify - 107 MB is the total size of the pack, so that's the patch + vanilla textures combined, making it somewhat bigger than packs like Hexxit but half the size of the YogsCast pack and slightly smaller than current FTB packs.

Modpack Preview - GameWorld Prizes

This preview is of something included in my main mod 'DiggysStuff',
tokens and trophies for GameWorld!


I wanted to do something a bit different with GameWorld on the modpack server so I came up with these, the trophies use a completely custom model made by me and can be placed to face different directions just like a furnace etc!

The tokens and trophies come in Bronze, Silver & Gold, coloured to match the vanilla & Metallurgy blocks so they blend in, but you are probably wondering how these fit in with the GameWorld so here are the main things you need to know:

  • We will have 3 tiers of games, with the type of token you get for winning depending on difficulty and/or minimum number of players. 
  • You can use your tokens in a special shop in SpawnWorld to buy various items, including trophies of the same type, or sell them for money.

Modpack Preview - Nether Enhancements

A lot of you will recognise some of the stuff in this screenshot if
you've come across the Natura & Biomes O' Plenty mods...


... but what about the flowers in front of Tatankore...
those are Blaze Flowers added by my main mod!

I created Blaze Flowers as I've personally always found it frustratingly 
hard to get hold of blaze powder or rods on a server, as usually someone 
has beaten you to the fortress and destroyed the only spawner!

There's also another one of my additions in the screenshot but
I won't mention that one for now, it has already appeared in
another screenshot in a slightly different form though!

Tatankore was also wearing armour in this screenshot so you
can get more of a feel for the HUD layout and information.

RageMaze Checkpoints

The RageMaze now has 2 checkpoints, one at the beginning of Stage 2 and one at the beginning of Stage 4, you'll also find some free apples when you get to Stage 4 to top up your hunger bar.

Industrial Diamonds & Minigames

By popular demand I have added sell signs to the 'bases' in the MarbleEnd minigame so that you can sell any Industrial Diamonds you receive whilst in the game.

I have also added a sell sign to the final stage of RageMaze as well as the ends of both Parkour101 and ParkourPro!

RageMaze Reopened!

RageMaze has now been reopened!

The whole maze has been changed around and the top section has been rebuilt virtually from scratch with two new stages added, some of the big changes are aimed at making the maze more varied and spicing up the PvP aspect when using it in multiplayer versus mode.

RageMaze Temporarily Closed

The RageMaze minigame has been closed temporarily for an overhaul.

With so many players having memorized the best route/s we decided it was time to change it around, it should reopen in a couple of days.

Modpack Previews

I will be adding regular previews of the pack from now until it's finally released!

We hit a major landmark with the modpack yesterday, 'Diggys Mobs' my second 
custom mod is now completely stable and has been added to the pack!

So here is the first of the regular previews...

Ever think the standard mobs are too easy to kill? 

Especially if you have a decent set of armour?

If so you'll love the challenge of this fairly rare mob...


He behaves much like a zombie but is always fully armoured,
faster, more aggressive and can take much more damage.

If your not well equipped and your unlucky enough to come across
one your going to want to run, there's no walking away from them! 

(And yes that's an altered Herobrine skin!)

For now the mod contains 5 mobs, 2 using a custom model and 
4 with custom sounds, I intend to add more in time 
though even after the modpack is released!

*Update - 09:20: There is currently a major network outage in central London which is affecting our hosting company, the backup is over 90% complete but I am unable to finish it or carry out the rest of the maintenance until the network issue is resolved. I will update here when I know more.

*Update - 09:40: Apparently this is the second outage this morning so if you couldn't connect earlier this morning you now know why! I'm not sure if the issue is completely resolved but I have managed to reconnect and am continuing the backup, I will probably have to extend the downtime a little though.

*Update - 09:50: I've added 30 minutes to the finish time, the network outage does seem to be mostly resolved now but the connection is still a little slower than usual.

*Update - 10:30: All done, the server is back up and the whitelist has been removed!

Modpack Delay

As many of you know I'm currently in the last 18 months of a degree, my workload until October is over 60 hours a week so I'm afraid the modpack is progressing a lot slower than I would have liked.

The original intention was for it to be launched this month however my mod still requires some work to get it to the point we need it at and some of the plugins still need a significant amount of tweaking, all in all I probably still have 5000+ lines of code to write and test plus a few hundred lines of config to tweak.

I will continue to work on it as time permits but until my workload eases off in October it will be difficult to get the bulk of the work done, come October however I should be able to finish things off fairly quickly so it should still launch well before the end of 2014.

As usual keep an eye on the Modpack section of the site for the latest news and updates, feedback so far has been very positive so hopefully when it does launch everyone will agree it has been worth the wait!

For now here's another little preview, this time something I've put together for the new casino, introducing the YogSlot...
